A 30 Year History:

Founded 30 years ago in 1993, Risen Christ was formed as a consolidation of five urban parish schools: Holy Name, Holy Rosary, Incarnation, St. Albert the Great and St. Stephen’s to preserve and strengthen Catholic education for new generations of children in the heart of south Minneapolis, Minnesota. Today, Risen Christ is recognized locally and nationally for it’s unique and innovative program as the only Catholic Dual Immersion school in Minnesota!

We are proud of our history and look forward to celebrating this important milestone with you!

An Excerpt from the 1993-1994 Risen Christ Yearbook:

It was Ash Wednesday 1993 when Archbishop John Roach announced the closing of five south Minneapolis parish schools. It was a bittersweet time for all the schools involved, with hope fotmore educational opportunities for children yet a sadness in seeing community parish institutions come to an end. From the ashes arose a new and stronger Catholic school: Risen Christ!

No one could fully comprehend all the work that was needed. No school of this magnitude and diversity had been attempted in this archdiocese. Once administration and leadership was established, the overwhelming task of hiring began. The teachers and staff hired worked endlessly all summer developing curriculum and bringing order to what appeared to be chaos. Truckload after truckload (about 55) moved books and furniture to the East and West Campuses. Hours of wading through paper work, painting walls and scrubbing desks was accomplished by parents, volunteers and staff.

On September 7, 1993 Risen Christ Catholic School opened its newly painted doors. Students descended upon refurbished and sparkling school buildings. Teachers hopeful for success and positive transitions for all awaited the children. A new school holding a promise for a better Catholic education for children stood ready. The first year has been a success!
