“I will always remember this: school had been in session for about three weeks and I was still getting to know the students. I was waiting with one student in my classroom to be called for dismissal. We were chatting while we waited. When the student’s name was called, she went to leave but stopped and said, ‘God bless you.’ It was really amazing to me to have an eight/nine-year-old say that to me. I felt at that moment that she trusted me. Maybe this story is less about how I impacted the students, but more about how they’ve impacted me.”
